Abstract
Resonance luminescence spectra of the free exciton are investigated in cuprous halides by uniaxial‐stress and magneto‐optical measurements. Apart from the perturbation‐induced structures due to the longitudinal and spin‐triplet excitons, the characteristic‐doublet structure is conclusively ascribed to the exciton‐polariton effect. Temperature‐dependent spectral shapes of these polariton luminescences are analyzed to derive the distribution of polaritons in the upper and the lower branches. The bottle‐neck effect of the polariton decay process is also discussed. Keywords
