Hypothalamus and Somatotrophic Hormone Release

Abstract
Chronic treatment with posterior pituitary preparations containing antidiuretic hormone induces significant enlargement of tibia cartilage width in normal young male and female rats; oxytocic hormone is ineffective. In hypophysectomized animals, posterior pituitary hormones do not produce modification of the epiphyseal cartilages. These results seem to indicate that posterior pituitary hormones may liberate an adenohypophyseal principle (probably somato-trophic hormone) which stimulates the proliferation of the tibia epiphyseal cartilage.
