Abstract
S. coelicolor strain NRRL-B-1257 forms heterokaryons which can be perpetuated by fragments of the vegetative hyphae and by spores. Colonies from single spores yield both parental types; therefore spores contain at least 2 sets of genes. Occasionally heterokaryons prepared from substrains dependent for different growth-factors will not initially grow in the absence of these growth-factors. The presence of both parental genomes can be demonstrated in these false recombi-nants. Stable genic recombinants have not been found. Keywords
