Abstract
The previously demonstrated antagonism between pituitary-adrenal cortical hyperactivity and the sensitivity of the rat uterus to estrogenic stimulation was confirmed. The phenomenon was reproduced unequivocally by Compound F and cortisone, and shown to be independent of the hypophysis. A moderate influence was observed with adrenal cortical extract (Wilson''s, aqueous). Preliminary data suggested that Compounds S and D (Reichstein) possess this capacity to a limited degree. DCA, pregnenolone, progesterone and testosterone failed to exert the inhibitory effect in a consistent manner. Possible mechanisms are discussed in the light of the apparent requirement for structural specificity. Keywords
