My co-workers and I propounded the concept of the glucostatic mechanism of regulation of food intake in the early 1950's.1, 33 , 34 It was proposed that in the ventromedial (satiety) hypothalamic centers (and possibly in other central and peripheral areas) there are glucoreceptors sensitive to blood glucose in the measure that they utilize it.
