Abstract
Glucostatic Mechanism Early work. My co-workers and I propounded the concept of the glucostatic mechanism of regulation of food intake in the early 1950's.1, 33 , 34 It was proposed that in the ventromedial (satiety) hypothalamic centers (and possibly in other central and peripheral areas) there are glucoreceptors sensitive to blood glucose in the measure that they utilize it. This concept was based on the facts that the central nervous system is dependent for its function on the availability of glucose, that carbohydrates are preferentially oxidized and are not stored in any appreciable amount, so that their depletion is rapid, and that . . .Keywords
