Abstract
In the presence of Na acetate as substrate the p-aminohippurate slice medium ratio of p-aminohippurate declines rapidly with time. With no added substrate and with Na lactate or Na pyruvate as added substrate this decline in the p-aminohippurate slice: medium ratio is much less, or even absent. It is shown that the increase in pH occurring in phosphate buffer is the cause of the decline of the p-aminohippurate slice: medium ratio. Keywords
