Abstract
Fructose and fructose-containing sugars (obtained from flowers) and some pollen grains were found in the gut and crop of Austrosimulium bancrofti, A. pestilms, Simulium ornatipes and S. nicholsoni from Queensland, Australia. In the laboratory, A. bancrofti fed on flowers of Callistemon viminalis, Eucalyptus tereticomis and Gomphocarpus sp., while S. ornatipes preferred flowersfrom the former 2 plant species and Jacaranda mimosifolia. Sucrose was important for adult survival and permitted the completion of egg maturation in S. ornatipes. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
