Effect of BAL on Cobalt-induced Polycythemia in Rats

Abstract
Subcut. injn. of cobaltous chloride (0.357 mg. calculated in Co) 5 times weekly regularly produces a polycythemia in young Sprague-Dawley rats. The polycythemia is fully established in 90 days. The injn. of BAL in a dose of 0.2 m[image]/kg. given 3 times weekly fails to prevent, cures or materially alters cobalt-induced polycythemia. The general toxicity of BAL appears minimal when given in this dosage over a 3.5-month period.
