Abstract
Late-stage COPD exacts an enormous toll in human misery and in medical costs. Treatment then is essentially palliative; the damage to lung parenchyma cannot be undone. Newer spirometric equipment helps to detect airway obstruction early and lends objectivity to ventilatory function testing.Keywords
