Abstract
Increased levels of polypeptide elongation factor 1 (EF-1) have been found in livers of cold-acclimated toadfish in summer and winter. About 70% of the increased activity in cold-acclimated fish is associated with low-molecular-weight (50,000-200,000 daltons) forms of EF-1. Levels of EF-1 activity in vitro are shown to be correlated with elongation rate in vivo. The results suggest that EF-1 may be a rate-limiting component in control of protein metabolism with temperature acclimation.This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
