Spin-flip scattering in ZnTe—experimental

Abstract
Spin-flip scattering of laser light at fields up to 148 kG in is described. Experiments varying excitation wavelength, power, magnetic field, polarization, and sample characteristics are detailed. The observed spectral features are assigned to the spin flip of heavy holes and to electrons and holes bound to donor and acceptor levels. The energy, line-shape, and linewidth field dependence of the heavy-hole scattering are compatible with theoretical calculations. The gyromagnetic ratio of the shallowest-heavy-hole level is found to lie between and , depending upon the sample, compatible with the theoretical value 0.92 ± 0.15.
