Pathogenesis and Early Diagnosis of Alcoholic Liver Injury

Abstract
ALCOHOLISM is a medical problem with an increasingly detrimental impact on society. In the United States, the number of patients with alcoholism is now estimated to exceed 10 million, and in large urban areas, cirrhosis of the liver is the third major cause of death in persons between the ages of 25 and 65 years. This seminar discusses the pathogenesis of alcoholic liver injury, especially the development of cirrhosis, and a means to identify patients who are particularly susceptible to it.
