Effect of Steroids upon Resistance of Skin to Intracutaneous Injection

Abstract
Measurements have been made of the resistance offered by the skin to the intracut. introduction of fluid, as detd. by the amt. of pressure required to perform an intracut. injn. under carefully controlled conditions in adult male rats. Systemic admn. of cortisone markedly increased the resistance of the skin to injn. Hyaluronidase, incorporated in the fluid administered intracut., lowered the injn. pressure. The effect of cortisone, however, was shown to be independent of the effect of the steroid upon hyaluronidase. Testosterone, desoxycorticosterone, compound S, and 21-acetoxypregnenolone were without effect under the conditions of these expts.Keywords
