Abstract
We have measured the absolute quantum efficiency (photon ratio) of atomic and/or molecular fluorescence owing to excitation by photodissociation at 205 nm (FWHM=15 nm) in a number of metal halide vapors. The measurements were done at pressures of about 0.1 Torr. The results are TlI=0.42, InI=0.20, HgI2=0.09, HgBr2=0.26, ZnI2=0.14, and CdI2=0.09. We believe these to be the first measurements of fluorescence yields in the metal halide vapors. Keywords
