Abstract
The type A botulinal organism produces a type-specific toxin but not a type specific hemagglutinin. This conclusion is supported by the finding that commercially available type B antitoxins neutralize the hemagglutinating capacity but not the toxicity of type A toxin prepns. Further evidence for the finding cited has been obtained by study of the minimum number of antigen-antibody systems in type A toxin prepns. by means of the Oudin serum-agar technic. In spite of the apparent homogeneity of crystalline type A toxin as detd. by biophysical methods the present study indicates the presence of a separable non-toxic hemagglutinating component. Keywords
