Abstract
Hindrance to rotation of hydrogen molecules in the adsorbed state is discussed. The possibility is pointed out that in some cases the lowest para‐level may lie close to the lowest ortho‐level. It is proposed that a simple adiabatic cooling method be obtained by allowing adsorbed parahydrogen to convert to equilibrium hydrogen at low temperatures under adiabatic conditions. It is shown that very low temperatures might be obtained under favorable conditions by relatively simple means. Keywords
