Abstract
Thyroid fragments transplanted into the spleen of thyroidectomized male rats are capable of maintaining a normal growth rate and plasma protein-bound iodine concn. No morphologic evidence of hyperactivity of the transplants could be found. Since passage of thyroid hormone through the liver before reaching the peripheral tissues does not interfere with the effectiveness of the hormone, it appears that the liver does not destroy the thyroid hormone to a significant degree when the hormone is present in physiological quantities. Keywords
