Large complete band gap in two-dimensional photonic crystals with elliptic air holes

Abstract
It is shown that elliptic air holes can be used effectively as inclusions to obtain a large complete band gap for two-dimensional photonic crystals. An instructive procedure of how one quickly finds the optimal configuration which gives the maximum complete band gap is described.Keywords
