Spin polarisation and angular distribution measurement of MNN Auger electrons from krypton and xenon

Abstract
The spin polarisation and angular distribution of Auger electrons from selected lines of the MNN groups of free krypton and xenon atoms have been measured. The experiment was carried out using electrons as projectiles. Although the measured polarisation is low (<1% for krypton, zero for xenon), the results show that Auger electrons may be polarised even if they are emitted from unpolarised targets after ionisation by unpolarised projectiles. In connection with angular distribution measurements it is possible to evaluate parameters describing the dynamics of the emission step.
