Abstract
A large series of synthetic organic com-pounds unrelated to stilbestrol were tested for estrogenic activity by the usual physiologic tests. All of the compounds reported were derivatives of the basic compound, l,3-di(p-hydroxyphenyl) propane. The most active compound was 2,4-di(p-hydroxyphenyl)-3-ethyl hexane. When injected in a single dose into castrate [female] rats 0.8 [gamma] of the substance in sesame oil produced a positive estrous response (Allen-Doisy test). This compound, Research Labs. #118B, is now called Octofollin. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
