Abstract
Three threshold detectors with thresholds at 1, 4.5, and 12 MeV have been used to investigate neutron emission from 10 targets (Be, C, N, O, Al, Fe, Ni, Cu, Mo, Ag) when bombarded by 19-, 22-, and 25-MeV ions. Laboratory angular distributions and production cross sections have been measured. The results are compared with an evaporation spectrum and it is concluded that a direct-interaction mechanism operates in the production of neutrons with energies greater than 12 MeV.
