Abstract
Radiological studies of a mother, 2 daughters and 1 son re vealed symmetricalc calcification in the caudate, lenticular and dentate nuclei. The mother showed intellectual impairment, ataxia and spasticity, but no hypoparathyroidism. The daughters were asymptomatic and 3 sons showed no radiological changes. The condition may be traceable either to transient parathyroid insufficiency possibly causing permanent or even progressive degeneration of basal ganglia vessels or to certain rare chronic infections affecting predisposed families.
