Abstract
An α-MSH-like peptide has been isolated from hog pituitary glands. This peptide, designated α2-CRF, has CRF activity, identical melanophoretic activity with α-MSH, but a lower inherent adrenocorticotropic activity than α-MSH. Natural or synthetic α-MSH is inactive CRF-wise at equivalent dry weight doses. α2-CRF has an identical amino acid sequence with that of α-MSH, but a discrete structural change at the N-terminus, as compared with α-MSH, may be responsible for the appearance of corticotropin-releasing activity. Keywords
