Abstract
Azbel′-Kaner cyclotron resonance has been studied at 24 Gc/sec and 2°K in the (), (), and (0001) planes of cadmium. Eleven distinct mass series have been identified and their mass values determined as a function of the orientation of the magnetic field in the sample surface. One of the mass series has been assigned to limiting-point electrons on the spherical caps of the third-band "lens" and two to orbits on the second-band "monster" which extend through three and five zones. Comparisons are made between several features of the Fermi surfaces of zinc and cadmium as indicated by the cyclotron-resonance data. The observed resonance line shapes are found to be in very good agreement with the theoretical predictions of Chambers and in poor agreement with the line shapes predicted by Azbel and Kaner.
