Abstract
Selected strains of P. pseudomallei produced a lethal toxin in vitro. Maximal yields of this toxin were obtained in filtrates of cultures grown in a 2% heart infusion broth (Difco) containing 4% glycerol and 1% hog gastric mucin and incubated statically at 32[degree]C for 7 to 10 days. Further increases in yield appeared to be limited by the accumulation of metabolic products in the cultures. Strain characteristics such as colonial morphology or virulence could not be correlated with toxigenicity. Keywords
