On the Mechanism of Ribose Synthesis in the Rat.

Abstract
Acetate, labeled as C13H3C14OOH was admd. to rats intraperit. Ribose from ribonucleic acid of polynucleotides of liver and intestine was analyzed. Dilution of C13 from the methyl group was 20% that of C14 from the carboxyl group, so that the methyl of acetic acid is incorporated into ribose to a much greater extent than is the carboxyl C. This might indicate that acetate is not incorporated into ribose as an intact molecule and is, therefore, not an immediate precursor.
