Abstract
The potential of two typical ericoid mycorrhizal fungi to produce hydroxamate siderophores has been assessed in a pure culture study. Both of the fungi, Hymenoscyphus ericae as well as Oidiodendron griseum, are able to stimulate growth of Arthrobacter flavescens JG‐9 which is an indication of hydroxamate siderophores. The maximum amounts detected in the nutrient solution were 6466 μg (des‐) ferrioxamine B (DFOB) equivalents g‐1 dry weight of H. ericae (32 μg ml‐1 nutrient solution), and 714 μg g‐1 dry weight (13 μg ml‐1 nutrient solution) of O. griseum respectively. Keywords
