Field and laboratory response of Ips typographus to optically pure pheromonal components

Abstract
The mass aggregation of the “Buchdrucker” Ips typographus L. (Coleoptera: Scolytidae) in response to the dual component pheromone system 2‐methyl‐3‐buten‐2‐ol (methylbutenol) and cis‐verbenol depends on the (S)‐enantiomer of the cis‐verbenol. The biological activity of the pheromonal combination was easily established under field conditions but less obvious in laboratory bioassay using pedestrian beetles. Reaktionen von Ips typographus L. auf Pheromon‐Komponenten im Labor und Freiland Die Massenanlockung des Buchdruckers, Ips typographus L., durch die synthetischen Komponenten des Aggregationspheromons cis‐Verbenol und 2‐Methyl‐3‐buten‐2‐ol (Methylbutenol) läßt sich im Freiland nur dann erzielen, wenn die (S)‐Enantiomere des cis‐Verbenol ausgebracht wird. Weniger deutlich als im Freiland reagierten Buchdrucker‐Weibchen in Laborversuchen, jedoch erreichte auch hier die Lockstoffkombination (S)‐cis‐Verbenol und Methylbutenol die höchste Anlockung.
