Abstract
All doctors can be divided into three groups: those who never think about pacemakers, those who always think about pacemakers, and the rest, who think about pacemakers for the right patients at the right time. The first group occasionally undertreats the patient with lightheadedness or syncope and a bradyarrhythmia; the second group may overtreat such a patient; but most physicians apply the principles of pacemaker treatment properly and thoughtfully.It is to the customs of one variety of the second group, the overzealous Philadelphia "pacerologist," that Greenspan and his colleagues have directed our attention in this issue of the Journal . . .
