Further Consideration of the Cushing Syndrome1

Abstract
Ninety-eight autopsied cases with this disorder were assembled. The pituitary glands of 63 were examined by the authors. The Crooke change was present in 58 of these. The 5 cases in which the Crooke change was absent were found on later review to be not wholly satisfactory clinical examples of the syndrome. There were 25 instances in which the syndrome was associated with adrenal tumor, which was malignant in 16 cases. In 12 cases with this syndrome there was no tumor found in any endocrine gland. The authors discuss certain theoretical aspects of the problem presented by this disease.
