Abstract
The equation 1.301 (I.L.) +19.27 = Cal. per hour (when I. L. = insensible loss of weight in grams per hr.) which Peters et al. advanced for calculating heat production directly from the insensible weight loss, is criticized. This equation is derived from data which demonstrate that the insensible loss of weight is roughly proportional to the heat production in the basal state. The authors claim that because of R. Q. changes this relationship is not quantitative for long periods of varying activity during which food is ingested, and that the above equation is therefore inaccurate. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
