Observation of weakγ-ray transitions inCr52using an efficient isotope identification technique for fusion-evaporation reactions

Abstract
Gamma-ray transitions in Cr52,53 and Mn54,55 have been observed using Li7(V51,xnypzαγ) fusion-evaporation reactions and γ-particle coincidence techniques. The experiment involved the same reaction at the same center-of-mass energy as the earlier work of Poletti et al., but with target and projectile interchanged. In the present work, eight additional transitions have been identified as occurring in Cr52. This provides corroboration of results obtained more recently via Ti50(α,2nγ)Cr52 reaction studies. A simple, efficient approach to the spectroscopy of weakly populated nuclear states which provides for unambiguous isotopic assignments is thus demonstrated.
