Abstract
The capture -ray spectrum resulting from thermal-neutron capture in and has been measured using a 30- and a 10- Ge(Li) detector, and angular-correlation measurements were carried out using NaI(Tl) detectors. Some 16 lines corresponding to transitions between levels of , and 9 lines corresponding to transitions between levels of were observed. The neutron separation energies of and were determined to be 10.938 ± 0.008 and 6.377 ± 0.007 MeV, respectively. The following assignments of spins for some levels (in MeV) of and the first excited level of were made: 1.555 (), 2.675 (), 4.151 [, , , ()], 4.178 (, , ), 4.887 [, , , ()], 5.195 (, , ), 5.382 [, , , ()], 5.948 [, , ()] for and 1.164 () for . There are some indications that only the capture-state spin contributes to the population of the low-lying levels in . The results of a comparison between the measured strengths of exciting the levels in the () and () reactions are discussed.
