Abstract
Fructose disappears rapidly from the blood in patients with diabetic ketosis, with or without insulin, and at the same rate as in normal subjects. By using fructose instead of glucose, together with adequate amts. of insulin, carbohydrate can be administered early in the course of treatment of diabetic ketosis without increasing the effective osmotic pressure '' of the extracellular fluid. The dehydration associated with diabetic ketosis can be corrected rapidly by infusing a hypotonic electrolyte soln. made up to isotonicity with fructose. Intra-cellular water is increased early in the course of treatment. Keywords
