The validity of reported parental height in inner city areas in England

Abstract
The validity of self-reported height was assessed in a sample of Afro-Caribbean, Asian and Caucasian parents. Asian mothers overestimated their height (p < 0.01) and Caucasian mothers overestimated that of their child's father. The standard deviations of the differences between reported and measured height, with the exception of Caucasian mothers, were large (between 4.33 cm and 11.18 cm). It is concluded that self-reported height from subjects living in inner city areas in Britain should be interpreted with great caution. Die Validität von selbstberichteter Körperhöhe wurder bei einer Stichprobe von afro-Karibischen, asiatischen und europiden Eltern überprüft. Asiatische Mütter überschätzten ihre eigene Körperhöhe (p < 0.01) und europide Mütter überschäten jene des kindesvaters. Die Standardabweichungen der Unterschiede zwischen angegebener und gemessener Körperhöhe waren groß (zwischen 4.33 cm und 11.18 cm), mit der Ausnahme europider Mütter. So ist zu schließen, daß die selbstberichtete Körperhöhe bei Probanden in Innenstadtgebieten von Großbritannien nur mit großer Vorsicht interpretiert werden sollte. Les écart-types des différences entre stature rapportée et mesurée, sont grands (entre 4.33 cm et 11.18 cm), excepté chez les mères caucasiennes. Il s'en suit que les autoestimations de la stature par les sujets habitant des centres urbains en Angleterre, doivent être interprétées avec beaucoup de précaution.
