Abstract
A "backcutting" technique has been found to increase corneal flattening in a series of undercorrected radial keratotomy eyes. This approach requires no additional radial incisions nor an optical zone any smaller than the original. The principle of the technique is explained. By backcutting only 2mm, there is good control and the risk of overextending the cut is almost none. In this technique there is less fluctuation of vision, less risk of infection, and less glare. A series of 97 undercorrected eyes are included in the results.
