To the Editor: The definition of peritoneal dialysis as a "less esthetic, more time-consuming means of solute and water extraction" that Friedman and his colleagues offer in their excellent paper in the February 16 issue of the Journal reflects some of the prejudices that are responsible for the "physician...resistance" to this method of therapy. These and similar prejudices might have been true 10 years ago, but since the introduction of the permanent peritoneal catheter and automated machines, peritoneal dialysis has become a simple and safe procedure.
