Abstract
Using deuterons of average energy 8.86 Mev, the stopping powers relative to air have been measured for the following gases: , He, , , Ne, A, Kr, Xe, C, and C. Absolute stopping cross sections were measured, using 4.43-Mev protons (of equal velocity) for , air, and Kr, and the deuteron results were normalized to give absolute stopping cross sections for all of the gases. Comparison is made with the theoretical results of Aron et al., Walske, and Lindhard and Scharff.
