Beta decay ofV54−55and the mass ofV55

Abstract
V54 and the previously unreported V55 have been produced in the Ca48(Be9,2np)V54 and Ca48(Be9,np)V55 reactions at 20-MeV beam energy, and the subsequent β decays to Cr54 and Cr55 have been studied via delayed γ-ray singles and γγ and βγ coincidence techniques. We measure the half-lives of V5455 to be 49.82 ± 0.46 and 6.54 ± 0.15 sec, respectively. From analysis of the β-ray energy spectrum, a mass excess of -49152 ± 100 keV is determined for V55. Comparison with theoretical mass predictions is made.
