Abstract
Cysteic acid is decarboxylated anaerobically to taurine by an enzyme in the kidney. Under aerobic conditions, loss of the amino group also occurs. A similar aerobic breakdown takes place in the presence of intestinal mucosa; hence cysteic acid is excreted in different form after ingestion than after intraven. injn. The non-S fraction of the molecule has not been identified. No evidence was found that sulphopyruvic acid, formed by transamination, contributed to sulphate formation in the tissues. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
