Abstract
Pellets of FeCl2 were suspended from a thermogravimetric balance and reduced by hydrogen. Fine thermocouples were embedded in the particles and recorded the reaction temperature. In the abserrce of diffusion control through the boundary layer (H2HCI), the reduction was controlled by chemical reaction at the interface between the reduced and unreduced layers. The rate of advance of the interface towards the centre of the particle was constant with time and independent of the thickness of the reduced layer. A correlation of experimental data on different particle sizes reduced over the range 450–635°C. is presented. Keywords
