Differences in the Electrophoretic Mobility of Antibody from Inbred Strains of Mice

Abstract
Summary: The electrophoretic mobilities of precipitating and skin-sensitizing antibodies were investigated in eight strains of mice. The precipitating antibodies produced by C57BL/6JN mice were slow migrating, while BALC/c and other strains of mice produced relatively rapidly migrating antibodies. Skin-sensitizing antibodies differed in electrophoretic mobility in the same manner as precipitating antibodies. The mobility difference between mouse strains was confirmed for antibodies against three different antigens. Genetic factors evidently influence the electrophoretic mobility of antibody in mice. These observations also show that some of the factors determining differences in electrophoretic mobility of immunoglobulin molecules are independent of antigen-binding (antibody) sites and the skin-sensitizing site.Keywords
