New Nonsteroidal Antiinflammatory DrugsWithin the past 10 years, a number of new NSAID's have become available in the United States. Most are representatives of two groups of compounds, the indoles, of which the prototype is indomethacin, and the phenylpropionates. Other chemical classes that have antiinflammatory properties but have not been widely exploited clinically include the pyrazolones, represented by phenylbutazone and its metabolite oxyphenylbutazone, the quinazolones, imidazoles, and phenothiazines. Several anthranilic acid derivatives, the fenamates, have been available in Europe for almost a decade but have not achieved an important status. The inhibition of prostaglandin biosynthesis appears to be a . . .Keywords
