Abstract
The values of the upper yield, the lower yield and the flow stresses of polycrystalline Armco iron are shown to have very similar dependences on temperature between 78°K and 200°K. The variation with temperature of the component of the upper and lower yield stresses which is associated with the unpinning of locked dislocations is found to be small in comparison with the total change in yield stresses. It is suggested that the observed temperature dependence of the upper and lower yield stresses is largely due to the interaction of moving dislocations with solute atoms. Keywords
