Preventive Dental Behavior of Urban Mothers

Abstract
Although the concept of prevention often is conceptualized in holistic terms, preventive dental practices in blue collar families, measured by care of mothers'' own teeth, their children''s teeth, and their vote on a fluoridation referendum, only partially overlap. One reason for this low correlation is the availability of clinic services for children but not for adults. Education, income, and attitude toward salaried practitioners are correlated differently to the 3 measures of prevention. The findings suggest that the strategy for measuring preventive practices and for identifying correlates of these require a more specific perspective than frequently is attempted.
