Abstract
A technique is described in detail, with illustrations, for easier collection of chicken blood. The animal is unanesthetized and bound on its back; aseptic technique is used; an interclavicular approach to the heart is made with a 16-gauge 3-4 in. needle, and 10-12 ml. allowed to bleed from the heart through the needle into chilled tubes, which must be corked and immediately placed in ice-chips. Still chilled, the blood is centrifuged for 8-10 min. at 2500 rpm., and then pipetted into chilled tubes and stored at 5[degree] C. If tightly corked, the plasma will keep 4-6 months, and longer if lyophiliz-ed.Keywords
