Abstract
The tight‐binding alloy with some off‐diagonal disorder is exactly equivalent to an alloy with diagonal disorder only. Therefore cluster approximations for diagonal disorder also apply to off‐diagonal disorder. As an example, the pair CPA is numerically studied for the one‐dimensional tight‐binding model. Other proposed cluster approximations preserving the translational symmetry fail in this case. Keywords
