Abstract
In various expts., D. persimilis and D. pseudoobscura [male][male] were given the choice between their own [female] [female] and hybrid [female] [female] of the 2 reciprocal crosses. In 2 expts. pseudoobscura [male][male] showed a slight preference for their own [female] [female]. In 2. other expts., however, D persimilis [male] [male] inseminated more hybrid than own [female] [female]. In both cases [male] [male] showed more preference for the heterogamic hybrids than for the heterogamic sp. in control expts. [female] hybrids whose mother is conspecific with the tested [male] [male] were inseminated more frequently than [female] [female] of the reciprocal cross. As the "ratio of preference" has been shown to be mainly controlled by species recognition, compatibility of genitalia and degree of activity, it is argued that greater activity of hybrid [female] [female] more than compensates for genetic inferiority in the other factors in the case of [male] [male] of D. persimilis, but not quite in the case of D. pseudoobscura [male] [male].Keywords
