Effect of Feeding Several Sulfonamides and Related Compounds on Growth of Chicks.

Abstract
Young chicks maintained continuously for 6 weeks on diets containing Gantrisin (sulfisox-azole) at levels of up to 1%, were more uniform and thrifty in wt. and appearance and exceeded the controls in wt. Young chicks maintained for 6 weeks on diets containing .03% of Ro 2-0404 (4-phenyl-4-sulfanilyl-2-butanone) or from .03 - 0.3% of Ro 2-0201 (beta-phenyl-beta-sulfanilyl-propiophenone) were also thriftier and more uniform than the controls in wt. and appearance and weighed up to 15% more than the controls. Chicks were markedly retarded in their growth when fed diets containing from 0.3 to 1% of sulfamethazine, sulfadiazine, sulfanilamide, sul-faguanidine or sulfaquinoxaline.
