Abstract
Computer experiments have been performed to study one-dimensional systems of localised states. Such systems exhibit a Coulomb gap at the Fermi energy mu , as do 2D and 3D systems, in contrast to what is expected from analytical predictions. The single-particle density of states, g, vanishes as E to mu according to g(E)=g0/In(Ec/ mod E- mu mod ). This relation is valid independently of the degree of disorder, of the filling factor of the band, and even independently of the quality of the metastable states considered. On the other hand, the parameters g0 and Ec are not universal. Keywords
